V2strip is a utility I came across today to solve a problem I had playing mp3 files on my LG phone. I found I could play some podcasts but not others. With some podcasts I keep getting a "file info read error" even though I could play the same file on my computer. After searching the web I found others were having the same issue but no solution. Even after contacting my cellular provider and LG I found no solution or even a cause. I was thinking maybe I would download the ogg file and convert it to a compatible mp3 file for my phone when I was looking for a utility to to the job I came across v2strip. V2strip according to the website is a little utility that removes ID3v2 tags from MP3 files to provide backward compatibility for applications not yet supporting these tags. I thought I would try it and see if it was a tag issue with my phone. I used v2strip on one of the incompatible mp3s loaded the file on my phone and it played. It appears LG phones can not play mp3s with ID3v2 tags, so if you are getting the dreaded "file info read error" on your LG phone's mp3 player go ahead and try using v2strip on the offending mp3.
